Can someone tell me exactly what 7-14 year olds want? If they want large, expensive equipment, sometimes seen in larger play areas, I suspect the answer will be No. If they want a skateboard/stunt bike area similar to the one next to Ashbourne Leisure Centre, I suspect that would also not be acceptable. We have a large, well kept playing field where youngsters can fly their Frisbees, kites and model aeroplanes and a new 5-a-side football pitch, which seems to be rarely used. If there are any youngsters reading this, let us know what you think.

I think an area of all weather surface would be great. A place where kids could practice roller skating, babmington, basket ball, netball, tennis, fartlek training the list is endless. Im not talking of a huge space, just enough to stretch your legs.

I like Tara’s ideas. These have the benefit that they would be of value to a much larger part of the community, so there would be far more benefit and support for the idea. Can we expand the initiative to cover 7 – adult?

I suggest the primary objective be that we create a hard area for tennis (or for netball/basketball – whichever is bigger), but it would also be used for the other activities Tara mentioned.

    In addition:

    – Hard area for racing remote controlled cars
    – skateboarding
    – giant chess
    – maybe some form of bowling?

Sorry that I have missed the deadline. We would like to have a play area suitable for older children. A smooth, all weather surface is a good idea. It could be versatile enough to allow different users to use the space for their prefered activity.

I think that a play area for 7 to 14 year olds is a great idea. I agree with richard s to have an area for remote control cars. I also think that it would be nice to have a large climbing frame.
