GARGOYLES FAIL TO GIVE SUTTON HILL TO CLIMB

On another sunny evening, Alstonefield St. Peter’s cricket club entertained Sutton on the Hill in a 20:20 match and although scoring at over five runs per over in posting 105 for 7, it was not enough against a strong Sutton batting line up who replied with 108 for 3, winning by 7 wickets. The Gargoyles started disastrously, losing 3 early wickets for 18 runs, under sustained accurate bowling from Martindale and Motley. A stand of 65 between Ian McKay and man of the match John Salt, who made 42 not out in his best ever innings for the club, meant there was a total to bowl at. Phil Bagshaw gave the Gargoyles hope in a fine opening spell, taking 2 quick wickets, but clean, powerful hitting by Trevatt, Land and Martindale saw Sutton reach their target with 5 overs to spare and win by 7 wickets.
