GARGOYLES MISS THE BOAT

Brilliant batting by John Salt and Phil Bagshaw should have given Alstonefield St. Peter’s Cricket Club their first ever win at the famous Clifton ground. Batting first in a 20:20 contest, Gargoyles’ opener and man of the match John Salt made his highest score for the club with a blistering 47 and with Phil Bagshaw in similar form with 32, the Gargoyles reached 96 for 3 with five overs remaining. Unfortunately the middle order batting failed to push the total beyond 108 for the loss of 8 wickets. The Clifton openers made steady progress with Dan Flower always able to keep the run rate ahead of target. The Gargoyles’ bowled tightly, with Amrit Singh the most economical with 4 overs for only 13 runs and Mikey Allen rewarded for intelligent variations in pace with 2 wickets. Clifton completed a comfortable win with 7 wickets and 2 overs to spare. Just not enough runs to put pressure on a strong batting side.
