GARGOYLES GET CLINICAL

Facing an under strength Sutton outfit on Wednesday evening,  Alstonefield Cricket Club showed no mercy in breezing to an impressive 7 wicket win. Sharp fielding and accurate bowling applied instant pressure to the Sutton batsmen, with the dangerous Martindale excellently caught by captain Salt off Mark Wright’s first over. Arthur Hack ran out Weir with a brilliant direct hit from the boundary and with Phil Bagshaw again impressive with the ball, taking 3 wickets for only 10 runs, Sutton were restricted to a modest total of 93 off their 20 overs. Sutton captain Hardy, with an aggressive 41, was by far the leading batsman, although there were encouraging batting techniques on show at the end from youngsters Beard and Land. 93 for 6 off 20 overs.

Captain Salt decided on a new opening pairing and it worked. John Gill and Will Siddons putting on 60 for the first wicket in only 7 overs, before Gill holed out. Richard Salt made a rapid 17 and Phil Bagshaw a selfless 10, but it was Will Siddons’ 38 not out, featuring superb straight driving and exquisite timing which caught the eye,  and won the match with 7 wickets and over 5 overs to spare.
