Alstonefield Gardening Group

The Group began in 2002 with the aims of helping and encouraging people in Alstonefield and the surrounding area to enjoy their gardening more and to enjoy time together with other gardeners.

Group members meet monthly in members’ gardens (or indoors if wet) to share lunch and good conversation. They hold an Annual General Meeting in April and from time to time arrange speakers, outings, events and exchanges of seeds, plants, etc.

Our two outings this summer were both very enjoyable, despite the weather not being very promising, the first being to David Austin Roses at Albrighton, near Wolverhampton and the second to Cascades Garden, a lovely garden at Bonsall.  We managed to stay dry, saw some wonderful flowers and ate good food in excellent company.

On 17th August Mrs Bateman of Stramshall talked to us about Cottage Garden Plants and Flowers, where they grow best and how to look after them.  We all learned a great deal and were inspired to try new things in our own gardens.

New members are always welcome – please contact Brian and Lorraine Hawkins for more information on  310353.
