How do I register as a User so that I can post comments?
Go to the top right-hand corner of any page on the website and click on the word ‘Register’ just below the ‘Log-In’ screen. You will be taken to the registration screen where you need to choose a username (see below) and input your name and e-mail address. Please read the registration requirements and accept the disclaimer, then click ‘Register’. This triggers an e.mail to the address you provided, confirming your username and giving you a password. Click on the verification link in the e.mail to activate your registration.
How do I choose a Username?
Your username must be a name by which you can be personally identified. You must not choose an opaque, anonymous or misleading username in order to avoid accountability for your comments. If you are not known in the village, you must choose a name which begins with ‘visitor’ and ends with your location.
Examples:
Local Resident: first name_first letter of surname (e.g. bill_s)
Not known in village: visitor_bill_london
How do I log-in?
Each time you visit the site, simply go to the log-in screen at the top right hand corner of any page and enter your username and password.
Can I change my password?
Yes, after logging-in. At the top of the screen underneath the Dashboard click on ‘Profile’. Scroll down to ‘New Password’ and type your new password in twice, as requested. Press ‘Update Profile’ on the bottom left-hand side.
How do I comment about a topic posted on the Forum?
Go to ‘Forum’ and scroll down to the topic you wish to comment on. Just underneath the topic heading, you will see the text ‘leave a comment’. Click on this which will take you to another screen with a box inviting you to ‘leave a reply’. Type your comments in the box and press ‘submit comment’.
How do I post a new topic on the Forum?
Go to ‘Forum’ and in the box ‘Alstonefield Community Forum’, click on ‘Add New Post’. Type your topic’s title in the ‘Post Title’ box and then the details of the topic in the ‘Post Text (Required)’ box. Select an appropriate Category for your comment from the menu. Finally press ‘send’ to put your completed post onto the Forum.
How can I get some news on the Home Page?
The Home Page is the news page with latest events, comments and items of interest relating to the village. If you have a request to put information on the front page, please contact us using the ‘Contact Us’ tab at the top of the screen.
How do I contact you?
Click on the ‘Contact Us’ tab at the top of the screen and complete the form with your details and your subject. Press ‘send’. You will receive a reply as soon as possible.
I have a business based in the Parish of Alstonefield. Can I advertise on the site?
Yes, we will list your business in an appropriate category under ‘Local Businesses’, which will include a link to your own website. Please us the ‘Contact Us’ form to provide us with information. We may ask for further details. Our policy is to offer this service free of charge.
I have a business based outside the Parish of Alstonefield. Can I advertise on the site?
Sorry, but it is not currently our policy to offer this service to businesses outside the Parish, as we are predominantly a community-based website.
Can I be listed in your Services Directory?
This directory comprises of businesses that provide services to the Alstonefield community. You may be listed in this directory if recommended by a parishioner.
I have some photographs you might want to consider for the Gallery? What do I do?
Please use the ‘Contact Us’ tab in the first instance to give basic information. You will then be re-directed to the individual who is managing the Gallery.
How do I put an Event on the ‘What’s On’ Calendar?
If you belong to a Group or Club, please route your request through the representative responsible for your web page. Otherwise please use the ‘Contact Us’ tab.
What is the difference between a Page, Post and Comment?
Posts and Comments are part of the forum. Any registered user can add a Post on a new topic and any registered user can add a comment in reply to that Post. Pages are part of the more formal part of the website and include the Home page, pages on groups, local businesses, Parish Council, Church, etc
