GARGOYLES ENJOY STROLLERS’ HOSPITALITY IN SEASON OPENER

……………………..Will Siddons and Phil Bagshaw

In a thrilling 20:20 run fest in the delightful grounds of St. Anselm’s school, Alstonefield Cricket Club held on to win against the Strollers by 5 runs.  Batting first, the Gargoyles had blitzed to  94 for 2 after 10 overs, with Mark Wright playing fluently for his 37 and Phil Bagshaw in particularly aggressive mood going on to an unbeaten 58. With some lusty fireworks from Will Siddons in the final over, a record 20 over score of 155 for 6  was posted.

The Strollers’ were not overawed, with openers James and Abraham steadily despatching some loose bowling for the required 7 an over, so that at the 10 over stage they had posted 68, before James was well caught behind by Will Siddons off Phil Bagshaw. Abraham continued to square drive anything short and with Salloway gaining confidence on 32, these two had moved the score to within 6 runs of the Gargoyles’ 155 by the final over. Abraham on 80 not out at the non-striker’s end, could do nothing as Amrit Singh delivered the ball of the match to send Salloway’s stumps flying and then did the same to Rudd’s hardware with the next ball. A scrambled run out later and the Strollers’ innings was over. What a start to the 2011 season.
