Friendship Club
Everyone is welcome to join the Club, which, contrary to some people’s ideas, is definitely not just for old people! We have a very varied programme each year. From late March until early December, we go on an outing every second Wednesday and meet at Alstonefield Village Hall every fourth Wednesday. A coach collects those without transport from many surrounding villages. Every time we meet there is good food on offer, as well as plenty of laughter, plenty to make us think and to entertain us, and wonderful friendship.
In 2010, our speakers include Alan Salt talking about cheese making in the Moorlands, Kath Reynolds’ reminiscences entitled “Goose grease and brown paper” and Pauline Tranter from the Pensions Service asking, “Are you getting all the benefits you’re entitled to?” Our Birthday Party is always very much enjoyed and this year we have entertainment by Michael Partridg; our annual Harvest Supper is always great fun. Outings include visits to Byrkley Park Garden Centre (with lunch at The Boar’s Head, Sudbury), Holmfirth (“Last of the Summer Wine country”), St Giles RC Church at Cheadle, lunch at Rushton, a tour of the Moorcroft Pottery, Christmas shopping at Peak Village and Chatsworth Farm Shop and Garden Centre, and of course our Christmas Lunch. For more information, please ring Lorraine Hawkins (Alstonefield) on 310353 or Ann Prince (Ecton) on 84394.
