Cricket Club

It is rare for any idle boasting in the bar of The George to turn into a thriving reality. Alstonefield St. Peter’s Cricket Club is a happy exception.

Now entering its fourth season, the Club has 30 playing members, reflecting the diversity of occupations in the community. The players range in age from fourteen to sixty eight and we are always looking for new talent.

We now boast a full 2010 fixture list of twenty matches against some of the strongest clubs in the area. Apart from enjoying a competitive cricket match, there is no doubt that our opponents love coming to our wonderful ground with its spectacular views, sampling the finest cricket teas around in the village hall and then celebrating a post match analysis in The George. True village cricket.

Through a lot of volunteer hard work and investment in machinery, we have transformed the playing field into a proper sports amenity and, to reflect the rather careworn faces of the majority of the members, we have drawn inspiration from some of the more playful examples of the Church’s stonework and we are known as The Gargoyles.
