Would there be any interest in a book sharing club?

The idea would be to place unwanted books somewhere accessible so they could be shared.

The problem would be accomodation.

Any thoughts?

Have any of you received an email from microsoft requesting details? Such as date of birth, passwords etc…

This does not feel right. They are asking for this information so to update their system..

Is it dodgy or is it just me???

Broadband hard sell…

I’ve had a call from a high pressure salesman trying to sell me improved internet access using ADSL2+ technology.

This is being rolled out over the UK and offers speeds of up to 24Mbps instead of 8Mbps.

The salesman stated that if I signed up, the Alstonefield exchange would be upgraded to ADSL2+ within a month.

As far as I can discover, BT have not announced an upgrade date, but is likely to be in 2012.

Opal/TalkTalk are claiming they will install their equipment in all UK exchanges by Spring 2011 – so they will be able to offer the upgraded service to their customers.

Either way, if you get a similar call, don’t believe everything you are told!

Hi Everyone

May we introduce ourselves?

My name is John and I am married to Andrea. We have two daughters, Hattie who will be 12 in September and Jess who will be 11 in december.

We moved to Damgate Farm on Ilam Moor Lane three weeks ago. We are really enjoying living here and have settled in nicely. This is due in no small way to all the incredibly nice and generous people we have met already. We have been made to feel very welcome by everyone we have met and we are very appreciative. We have moved from a semi rural area of Sheffield but nevertheless the move has been a big change for us all. We would particularly like to thank Brian Allen and his family who have been especially kind and helpful and also Carolyn and Charlie from across the lane who are really lovely neighbours. I should also thank everyone at the cricket club for making me feel so welcome (and for the pints at the George!). Also many thanks to Richard and Mike and Andy for tractor help!

Hi, my name is Hattie. I am eleven years old. Horse riding is my main hobby but I also like playing the guitar and listening to music. I love art and painting and anything to do with animals. I am starting at QEGS in September in year 7 and would love to hear from anyone else in my year also starting QEGS. Its a bit scarygoing to a new school so please reply if you would like to meet up over the next few weeks before we start back. Lots of friends have been visiting from Sheffield but I would really like to meet some new friends to chill out with.

Ladies Cricket

The ladies of Alstonefield have again been challenged by the Gargoyles to a match on the afternoon of Sunday 19th September. If you would like to play, practice sessions will be on Fridays 5.00 pm. to about 7.00 pm, starting this coming Friday, 6th August. Any age – teenager to pensioner! Please come along. Electricity fluctuations

Is anyone else having the same problems as us with their mains power? The Friday before last we had over a dozen power fluctuations, each one causing me to lose wireless connectivity to the office. In the end, I gave up trying to work and went for a walk.

Every time we arrive back in Alstonefield, we have to reset our clock radios which have inevitably suffered a power failure. The fluctuations and the failures frequently cause our hot water and storage heating to be out of synch with our Economy 7 so that we seem to spend a significant proportion of our lives on the phone to nPower complaining about our electricity bills.

We know their have been a series of problems over the past few years with the sub-station and the transmission (Blore?) but is anyone else still having the problems we are having?
